OTTAWA, Canada (AP) â" Canadian patent-licensing company Wi-Lan Inc. said Wednesday that it has reached a licensing agreement with Atheros Communications Inc. that will settle a patent dispute.
Wi-Lan said Atheros, will take a multi-year license and make a series of payments. Financial details were not disclosed.
Atheros is a party to five separate cases in which Wi-Lan is either suing or being sued by another company in U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Texas, including several with PC maker Acer Inc.
The agreement settles the legal action between Atheros and Wi-Lan. A definitive agreement is expected within a few weeks.
Atheros, whose chips are used to connect wireless computers to the Internet, is being acquired by chipmaker Qualcomm Inc. A spokeswoman said Atheros had no comment on the matter.
