NSW: Toddler killed by reversing car
SYDNEY, Aug 3 AAP - A 23-month-old girl has been killed after being run over by a car
in the driveway of a northwest NSW home, police say.
A 32-year-old man was reversing his Holden Commodore out of a driveway in Bourke at
9.30am (AEST) on Monday when the accident happened.
Police said the driver of the car stopped and gave first aid to the toddler.
She was taken to Bourke Hospital but died shortly afterwards.
"She had sustained significant head injuries," a police statement said.
"A post-mortem examination will be conducted in coming days to determine a cause of death."
Police seized the car at the property in Meek Street for forensic examination.
Detectives interviewed the driver of the car but released him without charge pending
further inquiries.
Police said they could not confirm if the driver and the girl were related.
A report is being prepared for the coroner.
